The home team has the slight end almost 4 months ahead of the game

When, why and how the NFL is deciding to release the 2024 NFL schedule is a mystery. We learned a couple of weeks ago who would play in Brazil on Friday night of Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season. Then, on Monday, we learned who would open the season on Thursday Night Football.

Later Monday afternoon came news for Cleveland Browns fans who are excited to see what the schedule looks like this year. The Browns will host the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 with Tom Brady making his debut in the broadcast booth.

Cleveland and Dallas are two strong historic franchises that both have Super Bowl aspirations going into 2024. Edge rushers Myles Garrett and Micah Parsons could steal the show as offenses sometimes have a tough time early in the NFL season.

DraftKings has odds for the Browns vs Cowboys up on their site already, almost four months before the game kicks off:

  • Cleveland is a one-point, home favorite with a -115 moneyline
  • The over/under is set at 44.5, the lowest of the three games currently available

Home teams are traditionally given a three-point advantage. However, last year, when the 2023 schedule was first announced, Cleveland opened as 2.5 point home underdogs against the Bengals. Although this year’s line is in favor of the Browns, it only being one point means DraftKings believes Dallas is a slightly better team at this point in the offseason. The Cowboys have had an interesting free agency with the team saying they were “all in” but only signing three external free agents, including the return of Ezekiel Elliott, and losing eight players including some key cogs.

We are expecting more schedule leaks in the next two days before the official release later Wednesday afternoon.

What odds would you take if you were placing a bet?
