The expectation heading into the 2024 season for the Indianapolis Colts is that they take a step forward and, with that, they’re hopefully able to find themselves in the hunt for the AFC South division title.

The Colts just missed out on the playoffs and a division title last season, losing to Houston in Week 18 to finish 9-8 on the year.

Continuity was the theme of the offseason for the Colts and will be a key element when it comes to them making a leap in 2024. With continuity, players know what the expectations are, the roles within the offensive and defensive systems, and the terminology. It is oftentimes in the second season with a head coach that teams make big strides.

Along with that, the Colts will also be getting Anthony Richardson back under center. GM Chris Ballard has built what should be a very disruptive defensive front, Adonai Mitchell provides that needed playmaking presence on offense, and the Colts return their entire starting offensive line–a unit that was top 10 in yards per rush and quarterback pressure rate.

“When you have your system in place, it helps big time, especially with the players understanding the verbiage and terminology,” Steichen said. “But really trying to stay on the cutting edge of things because this league is always changing. So if we can do that and build on what we did last year, I’ll be excited for the 2024 season.”

Like every team, the Colts still have their question marks, particularly in the secondary, but the recipe for a strong season – and a division title push – is certainly there.

In just one season, the AFC South has quickly become very competitive with the CJ Stroud and the Texans an ascending team, while the Jaguars continue to add around Trevor Lawrence.

So, in mid-May, what does Vegas think of the Colts’ chances of winning the AFC South? Here’s a look at all 32 teams ranked by Draft Kings’ updated division title odds:
