Quarterback questions for 32 NFL teams: Contracts, QB1 races | ESPN

If Daniel Jones struggles in the first half of the season, could he get benched to protect the money that is guaranteed for injury in 2025?

This is one of 2024’s most fascinating contractual subplots. Jones has a fully guaranteed $36 million coming his way this year, so he was always going to be on the 2024 roster. But the contract gets interesting in 2025, when he’s scheduled to earn $30 million. Of that $30 million, $23 million is guaranteed against injury. That means if Jones, who has missed games due to injury in all but one of his five NFL seasons and is currently rehabbing an ACL injury that ended his 2023 season early, were to get injured in 2024, the Giants could be on the hook for $23 million in 2025.

NY Giants salary cap update: Team is tight on space; how much money Drew Lock can actually earn in 2024 | The Athletic

The reporting of Drew Lock’s contract with the Giants was the opposite. National insiders reported Lock had signed a fully guaranteed one-year, $5 million contract in March. The $3 million Lock can earn via incentives wasn’t reported at the time. That was interesting since the deal could have been accurately reported as being worth “up to” $8 million. The incentives are based on playing time, individual performance and team success.

TE Darren Waller. The Giants drafted his replacement, Theo Johnson (Penn State), in Round 4 and have Daniel Bellinger under contract. Considering that the Giants can save nearly $12 million by designating Waller as a post-June 1 cut, that might be the best route, rather than waiting to see if Waller will return.

Breakout candidates for all 16 NFC teams | PFF

There’s really nowhere to go but up for center John Michael Schmitz after a thoroughly disappointing first season, in which he posted a 41.4 overall grade and a 26.9 pass-blocking grade as a rookie. If you’re looking for solace, his run-blocking grade was a bit better (51.3), and it’s worth noting that eight of his 30 pressures allowed came in Week 18.
