The Atlanta Falcons will release their 2024 regular-season schedule in less than 24 hours but the leaks have already started to come out. According to a report from ABC-TV reporter Zach Klein, the Falcons will open up the season against former head coach Arthur Smith and the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1.

Smith, who served as Atlanta’s head coach for three seasons (2021-2023), was let go by the team following the 2023 season finale. It didn’t take long for Smith to land a job as the offensive coordinator for the Steelers.

While nothing is official until tomorrow night’s schedule release, it would be an interesting way to start the season for the Falcons. Smith finished with a 7-10 record during each of his three seasons in Atlanta. The team’s inability to find a replacement for Matt Ryan ultimately cost him his job in the end.

Raheem Morris wasn’t going to make that same mistake when he took over as head coach during the offseason. The team signed Kirk Cousins and doubled down by drafting Michael Penix Jr. in the first round. Cousins should be the starter in Week 1 when Smith returns to Atlanta.
