Tight end is perhaps the most interesting position on the 49ers’ roster, and it could see a significant change depending on how the draft goes.

San Francisco boasts the NFL’s top all-around tight end with George Kittle. Beyond that the roster doesn’t offer a ton outside of players who are mostly involved in blocking. The 49ers have appeared to aim for another pass catcher alongside Kittle in the last couple years, but haven’t been able to locate a player who can help them there.

That could change in this year’s draft with some flexibility in their positional needs and three picks between Nos. 61 and 105.

An athletic, pass-catching tight end could quickly rise up the roster and give the 49ers an added offensive wrinkle they’ve lacked for the entirety of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s tenure.
