Bears had ‘fruitful talks’ with Morgan Moses about signing as left tackle

When Morgan Moses hit the free-agent market, Bears fans were clamoring for the team to consider signing the veteran offensive tackle.

But before Moses agreed to sign a one-year deal worth $3.6 million with the Jets, he had “fruitful talks” with the Bears, according to Mike Garafolo.

What’s interesting is that Chicago reached out to Moses about occupying the left tackle position, which is where rookie Teven Jenkins is expected to start this season. Moses ultimately signed with the Jets given he’s more comfortable at right tackle.

The interest in Moses at left tackle is more about his experience than anything. If the Bears had any doubts about Jenkins at left tackle, they wouldn’t have released veteran Charles Leno.

The Bears offense line is going to look different at the tackle position following the release of Charles Leno and Bobby Massie this offseason. Chicago drafted Jenkins to occupy the starting left tackle spot while Germain Ifedi and Larry Borom will battle it out for the starting right tackle position.

It certainly would’ve been nice for the Bears to land an experienced veteran like Moses, especially at what appears to have been a reasonable price.
