The Rams running back suffered a torn Achilles in July

The Los Angeles Rams have had to make a number of transactions because of running back injuries this year, none bigger than the loss of Cam Akers in late July to a torn Achilles, but head coach Sean McVay did not rule out a potential return for the second-year player this season. The Rams have until Week 15 to activate Akers for a potential late season, playoff run.

A 2018 study by Foot and Ankle International showed that players returned on average 336 days after the injury, but that does not account for injuries that happened so far ahead of Week 1. Most injuries would occur during the regular season and that wouldn’t allow for a sooner return than the following season. But Cam Akers was injured on July 20 and it has now been over three months since it happened, and it will be five months removed from the injury if he returns before the playoffs.

In 2012, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs tore his Achilles while playing basketball in late April and he returned to play for the team in October of the same year. The Ravens went on to win the Super Bowl with Suggs’ help.

Akers has been posting rehab, workout videos on Instagram recently and appears to at least be preparing to be ready as soon as possible. It is still possible.
