Colts Work Out 6 Players on Monday—Including Veteran DBs Jahleel Addae and Damarious Randall

The Colts brought in a pair of veteran safeties among their tryoutees on Monday—perhaps looking to shore up their depleted secondary with added versatility.

According to NFL Insider Aaron Wilson, the Indianapolis Colts worked out six players on Monday following their big primetime night win against the San Francisco 49ers:

Of course, the two biggest names are veteran defensive backs Jahleel Addae and defensive back Damarious Randall.

Originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the San Diego Chargers, the 5’10”, 195 pound veteran defensive back, Addae, has also played with the Houston Texans (2019) and later the Los Angeles Chargers (2020) [again].

The 31 year old versatile strong safety has 438 tackles (333 solo), 18 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, 5 interceptions (1 returned for a touchdown), 26 passes defensed, 3 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries during 107 career games (62 starts).

He appeared in 11 games for the Chargers in 2020, recording 21 tackles (13 solo), 0.5 sacks, an interception, and two passes defensed.

Meanwhile, Randall is a former 2015 first round pick of the Green Bay Packers, who’s also spent time with the Cleveland Browns (2018-19), Las Vegas Raiders (2020), and Seattle Seahawks (2020) organizations.

The 5’11”, 196 pound versatile safety (30 1/4” arms) has recorded 293 tackles (244 solo), 11 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 14 interceptions (2 returned for touchdowns), 47 passes defensed, and 2 fumble recoveries during 75 career games (56 starts).

The veteran safety appeared in 10 games for the Seahawks last season, recording 3 tackles.

Backup cornerback BoPete Keyes was reportedly the only injury from Sunday night’s win, but the Colts could be kicking the tires on veteran defensive backs to help still make up for the loss of starting safety Julian Blackmon to a season-ending Achilles injury.

Both Addae and Randall have been highly regarded in the past for their versatility in the secondary—with proven starting experience.
