Hardly a guarantee that Philadelphia wins this game.

The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-5 after effectively getting blown out (when the game actually mattered) by the Las Vegas Raiders.

But, hey, there’s an opportunity for the Birds to bounce back in Week 8! The Eagles opened as three-point favorites against the winless Detroit Lions and the line has since increased to 3.5, according to DraftKings Sportbook.

Surely, the Eagles are going to win this game. Right?

Well, maybe not!

Make no mistake: the Lions are in a bad spot. They weren’t very talented to begin with and injuries have only exacerbated their issues. No one will mistake Jared Goff as one of the most inspiring quarterbacks in the NFL.

One thing the Lions do have going for them, though? They fight pretty hard. Though he doesn’t yet have a win to show for it, Dan Campbell seems to be doing a nice job early on in Detroit.

Save for a blowout loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, who appear to be pretty good, Detroit has been in every game this season. It took the longest field goal make in NFL history for the Baltimore Ravens to beat them in Week 3. The Lions suffered another two-point loss on a late field goal to the Minnesota Vikings.

Detroit’s most recent effort was a nine-point loss to the Los Angeles Rams, who were favored by 16.5 points entering the game. The Lions actually had a lead late in the third quarter before the Rams ultimately pulled away.

Thus, the Eagles would be mistaken to think they can merely show up to Ford Field and waltz to a win. You can bet your behind the Lions are licking their chops with a beatable opponent in front of them. Campbell and his crew are hungry for their first win and it very well could come against the Eagles.

Philly has done nothing to earn the benefit of the doubt. It’s tempting to take the points.
