Giants head to playoffs — matchup with Vikings awaits

The junior varsity New York Giants, playing a lineup filled with almost exclusively backups, lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, 22-16. The 9-7-1 Giants, the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoffs, now head to the playoffs, where they will face the third-seeded Minnesota Vikings.

The Giants lost to the Vikings in Minnesota during Week 16, 27-14. That game was decided on a last-second 61-yard field goal by Minnesota’s Greg Joesph.

Sunday’s victory allowed the 14-3 Eagles to clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.

Despite not playing most of their starters, the Giants made the 14-point favorite Eagles earn Sunday’s victory.

In the first start of his career, Davis Webb was 23 of 40 for 168 yards with a touchdown pass and a 14-yard rushing touchdown. Both were the only touchdowns of his career.

Tight end Lawrence Cager had eight receptions for 69 yards. Kenny Golladay had a great one-handed catch for a 25-yard touchdown, the only touchdown he has scored in his two seasons with the Giants. Gary Brightwell had 11 carries for 60 yards (5.5 yards per carry) and a 40-yard kickoff return.

Defensively, Jarrad Davis and Rodarius Williams each had 10 tackles, with Davis adding a half-sack. Micah McFadden had seven tackles, two for loss, a sack and a quarterback hit, and Nick McCloud had 1.5 sacks, two quarterback hits and five tackles.
