Toney could still face a fine from the NFL for his punch of Davontae Kazee

New York Giants wide receiver Kadarius Toney has issued an apolofy for Sunday’s ejection during the game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Toney “will be evaluated for a likely fine but no suspension” by the NFL after his ejection Sunday for throwing a punch at Davontae Kazee of the Dallas Cowboys, per NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.

Toney was tossed from the game when he threw a punch after being tossed violently to the ground by Kazee with 6:24 remaining. That brought an unfortunate end to a brilliant game for the rookie from Florida, as he caught 10 passes for 189 yards.

Head coach Joe Judge was anything but pleased by Toney’s loss of control.

“There’s a pretty distinct line in terms of competing and doing the things we’re not going to condone as a team that put us behind,” Judge said. “That’s not going to be accepted. It’s not going to be condoned. That’s as far as I’m going to go with that. Obviously, it resulted in him leaving the game and I’m just going to leave it at that right now.”

Toney, 22, obviously has incredible ability. What happened Sunday, though, might be looked at as validation for those who expressed concerns about his maturity pre-draft.

“Just learn from it. Score wasn’t looking right, but at the same time, what I told him was, you did everything that you could possibly do being a receiver, going out there, making plays, doing the best for the team. But plays like that, that can hurt the team,” said veteran wide receiver Kenny Golladay. “At the end of the day, he is still a rookie and he has a lot of learning to do. He’s going to make mistakes. The only thing I can tell him is true is not to make that mistake. He is a rookie. I am pretty sure he wishes he could have that moment back. Turn the other cheek. He will learn from it.”
