New York Giants headlines for Wednesday

Good morning, New York Giants fans!
Ex-Giants star slams ‘absurd’ Joe Judge critics: ‘Shut up … you’re wrong!’ – NJ.com

The media outside of our little Big Blue bubble has been quick to criticize Joe Judge, but Phil Simms isn’t having it.

“Shut up. They’re wrong. You can. It’s team building. It really does bring chemistry to the team. When guys have to run, yeah it’s punishment, but it’s kind of funny and it brings everybody together, just like the fight did with the Giants. I didn’t look at it as a detriment. And practicing too hard? Oh, come on. Come on. You gotta practice and do things on the field, take a rest, get back on, like it’s a game. And when you do things like that, scientifically it’s been proven, that’s the way to do it. And that is the best way … you can help prevent your team from getting more injuries. Does it work out like that always? No. But to think he’s run the training camp too hard is absurd and for people who say it, be quiet. You’re wrong!”

The 25 most intriguing players for the 2021 NFL season – The Athletic

23. Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants

Let’s acknowledge the massive impact that fantasy football has on NFL interest. From that angle, Barkley could be a league winner, or he could be a dud.

In real-life football, Barkley was electric as a rookie but has failed to regain that form and played in just two games last season. Without him, the Giants still finished 11th in rushing efficiency.

We know that Jason Garrett is going to run the ball a lot. And the Giants very well could embrace a formula that calls on the defense and run game to lead the way. Barkley is only under contract through 2022. He has a lot riding on this season.

And an interesting stat from the Kyle Pitts blurb:

Jeremy Shockey had 894 yards in 2002 — the most by a rookie tight end in the past 20 years. Evan Engram had 722 yards in 2017 — the most by a rookie tight end in the last 10 years. There’s reason to believe that Pitts can crush those marks.

Logan Ryan’s calculated position change already paying off with New York Giants

An interesting look at Ryan’s business savvy and impact that doesn’t show on stat sheets.

“Look, I think one of my greatest assets, greatest abilities, is telling the play to my teammates. Getting my teammates lined up, allowing my teammates to shine. When I look at the NBA and I see a Jrue Holiday and a Chris Paul, they set up so much for their teammates and I think that’s what I do. I think Devin should’ve made multiple, multiple Pro Bowls. Sometimes he doesn’t make it because, statistically, it might not be as much as the guy who’s on the 1-15 team that has four interceptions, Devin [McCourty] might have three interceptions, but his team is 15-1. I’ve been on winning teams, and I think I know how to play winning football, and that’s my main priority is to win. Hopefully, the Pro Bowl and the All-Pro comes. I’m still striving for it.”

Judge isn’t finished bringing back familiar faces for training camp.

Fantasy football roundtable – Varying levels of confidence in Saquon Barkley – ESPN

All of ESPN’s analysts have at least a “fairly high” view of Barkley for fantasy football.
