Someone’s win streak has to end

The New York Giants won’t be the only underdog looking to unseat a No. 1 seed on Saturday. In fact, the betting odds for the Jacksonville Jaguars to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs are even lower than for the Giants matchup with the Eagles.

To prevent the Chiefs from reaching their fifth-straight AFC championship game, Jacksonville will likely need to play at its full potential for four quarters — something that has rarely been the case during a streak of wild comeback victories.

The Jaguars snuck into the playoffs with a 5-0 end to the season. Last week, they erased a 27-0 halftime deficit against the Los Angeles Chargers to keep their season alive. The question now is which version of Trevor Lawrence against the Chiefs: the one that threw four touchdowns in the second half against the Chargers, or who threw four interceptions in the first half?

The Chiefs have been here before. They enter with a five-game win streak and impeccable play from MVP favorite Patrick Mahomes. But they did appear vulnerable during the latter part of the season. They needed overtime to defeat the Houston Texans in Week 15, and their two recent wins over the Denver Broncos came by just one score. Of course there are still wins, but it’s difficult to find reasons to doubt the No. 1 seed.

The Chiefs beat the Jaguars 27-17 in Week 10 and have won their last six games against Jacksonville. Lawrence was sacked five times in that game, and Mahomes threw four touchdown passes.
