New York Jets Flight Connections 7/24/21

Good morning, Gang Green Nation! Word is trickling out that the New York Jets have had discussions with the Chicago Bears about acquiring veteran quarterback Nick Foles. This vague story could mean anything from the acquisition of Foles is imminent, to the two teams chatted for 30 seconds in general terms weeks ago and nothing ever came of it. Personally I hope that the chatter is nothing, unless the Jets pull off an NBA type trade where they acquire a draft pick to take Foles off the Bears’ hands. I also doubt that the Jets, after showing little interest all offseason in acquiring a veteran free agent quarterback which would have cost them nothing in terms of players or draft capital, now suddenly are willing to take on Foles’ salary AND give up players or draft capital for the privilege of acquiring a mediocre backup quarterback. We’ll see how this plays out, but personally I think that if the Jets feel the need to acquire a veteran backup quarterback (and I’m not sure they do, or should), they’ll wait to see how cuts play out as the preseason winds down and acquire somebody cut by another team, for less money than Foles would cost and without giving up any assets.
