Silver Minings: ESPN ranks Derek Carr the 9th best QB in the NFL

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is having one of the best seasons of his career. He leads the league in yards and is top ten in adjusted yards per attempt and yards per attempt.

The quick start has outlets ranking him inside the top ten quarterbacks in the NFL. Former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum recently ranked Carr the ninth-best QB in the NFL after his performance vs. the Denver Broncos.

· Las Vegas’ Derek Carr played exceptionally well in a win over the Broncos, especially in light of what the Raiders dealt with as an organization over the past week. He now has four 300-yard games this season. The deep ball was a big factor again on Sunday, as he went 6-of-10 for 219 yards and a pair of touchdown passes on throws of at least 15 air yards, per ESPN Stats and Information. And he is finding receiver Henry Ruggs III on a lot of those, especially the really deep ones. This season, Carr is 5-of-7 targeting him 30-plus yards downfield, including 2-of-2 on Sunday.

Carr has had hot starts like this before but not to this extent. He is challenging defenses more than ever and anticipating at a high level. It is exactly what you would expect from a 30-year-old veteran quarterback.

Hopefully, the former Fresno State bulldog can make this a year-long ranking instead of a temporary one.
