The Tennessee Titans made several roster moves on Tuesday afternoon as the team prepares to take on the Buffalo Bills on primetime in Week 6.
The @Titans have waived DL Woodrow Hamilton from the active roster while signing two players to the practice squad – offensive linemen Derwin Gray and James Murray.

Starting with the surprising in-season retirement from Sambrailo, it’s a tough blow for a banged up offensive line. Sambrailo has served as a quality swing lineman for the team over the past two seasons, and even recently put in an excellent performance in Week 2 against the Seahawks following a late afternoon injury to Taylor Lewan. Sambrailo has dealt with injuries as of late. It’s tough to say why he’s choosing to retire now, but perhaps the piling injuries have become overwhelming for him. We wish him the best of luck going forward.
Sambrailo’s retirement could open up a quicker path to the field for second-round rookie Dillon Radunz, who offensive line coach Keith Carter called “The next man up” during a Tuesday afternoon press conference. Carter’s comments make more sense now that we’ve received word on Sambrailo’s retirement.
Punter Brett Kern was placed on the team’s Reserve/COVID-19 list. Johnny Townsend has punted for the Titans the last two games in place of Kern, who has missed the past two games with a right groin injury. Townsend could play his third consecutive game in Kern’s place on Monday.
Additionally, the Titans waived defensive lineman Woodrow Hamilton, who was with the team throughout training camp and preseason. Hamilton ultimately landed a spot on the team’s practice squad before being elevated to their active roster a few weeks ago. Tennessee has received encouraging defensive line play from Naquan Jones and Amani Bledsoe in recent weeks. Their play likely made Hamilton expendable. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Hamilton pop back up on the team’s practice squad in the coming days.
Tennessee also added a pair of offensive linemen to the practice squad in the form of Derwin Gray and James Murray. Gray is a familiar name, having spent part of the preseason in Tennessee. This isn’t his first stint on the practice squad, either.
