Frank Reich and the Carolina Panthers have done a bang-up job of building themselves a coaching staff—one that’s experienced, diverse and respected. But they’re not quite done yet.

As noted on Saturday afternoon by Joe Person of The Athletic, the team still has a few more openings to fill—needing someone to lead the wide receivers and the tight ends. And according to Person, Shawn Jefferson will be a name to keep an eye on.

Jefferson has 17 years of NFL coaching experience under his belt. That journey began as an offensive assistant with the Detroit Lions, the team he last played for, in 2006.

He’d proceed to climb the ladder in the Motor City, advancing to assistant wide receivers coach in 2007 and then to wide receivers coach from 2008 to 2012.

The former wideout went on to serve the same role for the Tennessee Titans (2013 to 2015), Miami Dolphins (2016 to 2018) and the New York Jets (2019 to 2020), with whom he also worked as an assistant head coach. Jefferson has done the same for the Arizona Cardinals, taking up the titles of wide receivers coach and associate head coach in 2022.
