Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif has a broken bone in his hand, ruling him out for the next four to six weeks, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
#Chiefs OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardif recently broke a bone in his hand at practice and is out 4-6 weeks, sources say. The good doctor, who was the 2020 @SInow Sportsperson of the Year for his work on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, does have a chance to play Week 1.

Rapoport adds that the 30-year-old Duvernay-Tardif still maintains a chance to play Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns on September 12. Duvernay-Tardif missed his first training camp practice on August 6, and he has been seen working off to the side in the trainer’s tent with a substantial wrap on his right hand at recent practices.
Before the injury, Duvernay-Tardif had been working as the second-team right guard behind rookie Trey Smith. The veteran started 57 regular-season games for the Chiefs from 2015-19 before opting out of the 2020 season to fight COVID-19 on the front lines at a long-term care facility in Montreal.
Rapoport later noted that the offensive lineman’s injury does not require surgery, further strengthening the case that he could be available for the Chiefs as interior offensive line depth at the beginning of the 2021 season.
