Saints in an unfamiliar position in updated power rankings
1 min readLosing an all-time great at quarterback will do that.
The New Orleans Saints have been a perennial contender for over a decade. Since the arrival of Drew Brees, aside from a few 7-9 seasons (thanks in part to lost draft picks after the Bountygate debacle), the Saints have consistently been a powerhouse in the NFL.
Now, after the retirement of the future Hall of Famer, questions at quarterback bring a lot of uncertainty into New Orleans. When Fan Duel released their post-Julio Jones trade power rankings, it’s not a surprise to see the Saints roughly in the middle of the pack at 13th.
The Saints were given +2700 odds to win Super Bowl LVI in Inglewood, 6th-best in the NFC. Ahead of the Saints in the NFC were the Buccaneers (2nd, +650), Los Angeles Rams (4th, +1400), San Francisco 49ers (5th, +1300), Green Bay Packers (8th, +1700), and Seattle Seahawks (9th, +2300).
Sticking the NFC South, the Carolina Panthers were 23rd in Fan Duel’s power rankings, with +7000 odds to win the Super Bowl, one spot ahead of the Atlanta Falcons. For those curious, the Tennessee Titans – the team that acquired Julio Jones from Atlanta – was ranked 14th, one spot behind New Orleans.
