Let’s hope it’s enough to carry an otherwise questionable roster.

The New Orleans Saints might not have a lot going for them right now what with injuries, suspensions, and retirements, but at least they have their offensive line. Even without star power at the wide receiver position, a strong offensive line could help keep an NFL offense afloat, especially when you have an MVP-caliber running back like Alvin Kamara in the backfield.

But the good folks over at Establish the Run didn’t determine that the Saints just have “a strong” offensive line, but rather the best offensive line in the entire NFL (subscription required):

LT — Terron Armstead

LG — Andrus Peat

C – Erik McCoy

RG – Cesar Ruiz

RT — Ryan Ramczyk

Notes: No team in the NFL drafts and develops O-linemen better than the Saints. Each player was drafted by the team and all five starters are returning. New Orleans has the best tackle duo in the NFL with Terron Armstead and Ryan Ramczyk, both among the top three at their respective positions without any major weakness in their game. The interior of the line is led by third-year pro Erik McCoy who is on his way towards becoming one of the five or six best players at his position if he’s not already there. This unit also has the benefit of playing in arguably the most OL-friendly scheme in the NFL for an excellent O-line coach and elite play-caller in Sean Payton.

Andrus Peat and Terron Armstead both can struggle with injuries, and Andrus Peat left practice early yesterday, presumably due to a minor injury. If the offensive line can stay healthy – which is a big “if” – the offensive line could be what takes a mediocre roster into postseason contention.
