Houston Texans assistant offensive line coach Cole Popovich could earn a promotion this offseason.

Popovich interviewed for the offensive line coaching role with the Washington Commanders on Dan Quinn’s staff, according to KPRC’s Aaron Wilson. Popovich joined the Texans this year after one year coaching the offensive line at Troy University. He previously coached with the New England Patriots as an assistant coach from 2016 to 2020.

“Great coach, great man,” a league source told Wilson of Popovich.

DeMeco Ryans’ staff has been of widespread interest this offseason. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson interviewed for jobs with multiple teams before both agreed to return on new contracts. Linebackers coach Chris Kiffin interviewed for the Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator job as well before Anthony Weaver was named.

The Texans had a solid offensive line under Chris Strausser and Popovich. Offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil made the Pro Bowl and the offense as a whole finished in the top-half in yards and points in 2023.
