Texans beef up defensive line in Draft Wire 2-round mock

Bryce Young to the Houston Texans is as expected as humanity colonizing Mars. At this point, mocking the Alabama signal caller to Houston is a given for any mock draft.

Luke Easterling from the Draft Wire released his latest two-round mock, and the customary No. 1 overall selection of Young by the Texans was given. Easterling also went with a unique take of Houston using their second Round 1 pick to take TCU receiver Quentin Johnston.

Where Easterling added a fascinating twist was in Round 2 — principally because no one else is writing two-round mocks this early in the draft cycle — where the Texans used their 32nd overall pick to take Iowa defensive lineman Lukas Van Ness.

Van Ness added 37 combined tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 6.0 sacks through 13 games with Iowa. At 6-5, 264 pounds, the Texans could use Van Ness on the left side as a run-stuffing defensive end. He would also be an interesting transition piece if the Texans ever switched back to the 3-4 under a new coaching staff.
