Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Eagles trade deadline candidates, if they’re ‘sellers’ – PhillyVoice
Miles Sanders. That would be 9.5 carries per game. If the Eagles aren’t going to use him, there are plenty of other contenders (or wannabe contenders) around the league that could use help at running back, notably the Rams, Ravens, Chiefs, 49ers, Seahawks, and Cardinals, among others. If you’ll recall, one of the appealing aspects of the Jay Ajayi trade that the Eagles made with the Dolphins during the 2017 season was that Ajayi was under contract for another full season in 2018. Similarly, Sanders has another full season under his rookie contract in 2022. If the team doesn’t intend on paying Sanders large sums of money for a second contract (as bountiful evidence around the league says they shouldn’t), then the time to maximize the return on Sanders is right now. Projected value: 3rd round pick.

After the Eagles traded Zach Ertz, who else can they sell? A trade deadline primer – The Athletic
The big splash worth making: Miles Sanders. Healthy for every game this season, Sanders nonetheless ranks 32nd among running backs with only 57 carries. The Eagles have been more pass-reliant than nearly every team thus far despite their efficiency when they run, so it’s easy to see that he’d be more valuable elsewhere. Further, it’s not as if the dropoff from Sanders to Kenneth Gainwell (or from Sanders and Gainwell to Gainwell and Boston Scott) would be so significant given his meager role. And if this is the scheme the Eagles are going to have in place, it would be a folly for the Eagles to sign Sanders to a high-priced contract when his rookie deal expires after next season. If we can see all of that clearly, it seems evident the time to maximize the return for him would be now, given the lack of tread of his tires and the easy explanation for why he’s available.

Ten buyers and sellers ahead of 2021 NFL trade deadline – NFL.com
Howie Roseman insisted after selling Zach Ertz that he doesn’t view his team as sellers ahead of the deadline. Cool. He should (perhaps he does but won’t say it publicly). The Eagles are a flawed team that is already three losses behind in the NFC East and 13th out of 16 teams in the conference. Derek Barnett is playing out the final season of his contract and could be a piece an edge-needy team inquires about. With the desperate corner need around the league, would Roseman sit on Avonte Maddox, who is playing very well — and for peanuts — if another team comes calling? What if someone inquired about Darius Slay and offered a bundle of picks if Philly ate some of the contract to make a trade work? With potentially three first-round picks next year, the Eagles are building for the 2022 NFL Draft. Adding to that stockpile is the play.

Eagles rookie storylines entering the Raiders game – BGN
Will the Eagles remember Kenneth Gainwell is on the team? Unbelievably, the Eagles have barely gotten the ball to Kenneth Gainwell in the last two weeks. He has had three touches. THREE. Between the Panthers and Bucs games. This is typically poor decision making from a team that has underutilized both of their talented running backs. The offense looks better when Gainwell is getting the ball as a runner and receiver. Even if it’s only a few plays, his versatility and big play ability make a big difference on the field. With some introspection from the Eagles about how little they have run the ball recently, hopefully Gainwell will see more opportunities against Las Vegas.

NFL rumors: Eagles’ were ‘really aggressive’ trying to trade for Texans’ Deshaun Watson – NJ.com
Appearing on CBS Sports Radio’s Zach Gelb Show Wednesday, Sports Radio 790 Houston Texans reporter Aaron Wilson said that the Eagles were heavily involved in trying to trade for Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Wilson said the Eagles were so interested that they sent someone to the Houston area to investigate the 20-plus sexual assault lawsuits filed against Watson. “At one point, Philadelphia was really aggressive in this to the point where Howie Roseman had even contacted Deshaun’s legal team, and he had sent an investigator down here,” Wilson said. “He had done a lot of legwork on this. Eventually, what he ascertained, and I reported this back in August, and I think in late July as well, that Deshaun wouldn’t waive his no-trade clause for the Eagles. He has some power in this. He can choose his own team. If he says no, then the trade is a no.”

Some crazy Quez Watkins numbers in this week’s Eagles Stats – NBCSP
QUEZ CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Quez Watkins has 311 receiving yards this year, already the most in any season by an Eagle who was drafted by the Eagles in the 6th round or later since running back James Joseph had 344 back in 1994. It’s the most by an Eagles WR in any season since Tony Woodruff had 484 in 1984. The only WR drafted as late as Watkins with more yards this year than Watkins is Antonio Brown of the Bucs, a 6th-round pick of the Steelers in 2010. He has 418 yards. The last Eagle drafted in the 6th round or later with more yards through six games was TE John Spagnola [348 in 1985] and the last WR with more yards through six games was Hall of Famer Harold Carmichael [432 in 1982].

Jahnke: Best NFL Week 7 player prop bets – PFF
The Las Vegas run defense has been close to average this season. Several backs have gotten close to the 67-yard mark, but only two have surpassed it — Austin Ekeler and Khalil Herbert, and it took both 15 or more carries for them to get there. The plays where Sanders does the best have also been the plays the Raiders have been the best at stopping. His highest-graded run concept this season has been outside zone, where he’s averaging 6.5 yards per attempt and gaining a first down 40% of the time. The Las Vegas defense is allowing just 3.4 yards per attempt and an 11.1% first down rate versus outside zone run concepts. Las Vegas’ defense has struggled most against draw plays, which Philadelphia hasn’t run this year. The Raiders also haven’t been great against man run concepts, but the Eagles use those at the fourth-lowest rate in the NFL. This all means that even if Sanders can reach double-digit touches, he might not find much success against the Raiders defense because of the match up.

Fantasy football flex and superflex rankings for Week 7 – ESPN+
6. Jalen Hurts, QB, Eagles: Still not a good passer. It is a fact. But he runs a lot. In fact, he leads the team in rushing yards. […] 68. Miles Sanders, RB, Eagles: We know how Sanders is not better. Two Lions, two Broncos, two Browns and two Ravens have more rushing attempts. C’mon, Eagles.

Week 7 Fantasy Football Rankings: QB – Rotoworld
Jalen Hurts banked his sixth QB1 effort in as many starts when his two rushing scores powered him to QB8 in Week 6. Hoarding all the Eagles’ fantasy points for himself, Hurts now gets to deal with a Raiders defense that has permitted the eighth most quarterback rushing yards at 140. This doesn’t feel sustainable, but that’s been the case for weeks.

Giants-Panthers injury news: TE Evan Engram (calf) sits out practice – Big Blue View
In an alarming development for the already injury-ravaged New York Giants, two more of their key play makers showed up on the team’s injury report on Thursday afternoon. Tight end Evan Engram, who missed two games this season with a calf injury, was listed as ‘did not practice’ with a calf injury. Wide receiver Sterling Shepard, who missed two games with a hamstring injury, was listed as ‘limited’ due to a hamstring issue. No word from the Giants as to whether these might have been rest days for Engram and Shepard due to their previous injuries. The Giants will already be without Saquon Barkley (ankle), wide receiver Kenny Golladay (knee) and wide receiver Kadarius Toney (ankle).

3 bold predictions for the rest of the Cowboys 2021 regular season – Blogging The Boys
That leaves the Cowboys and Buccaneers, who both have very favorable schedules the rest of the way. There’s a decent chance that Dallas and Tampa Bay both have only one game (AT KC for DAL, VS BUF for TB), the rest of the regular season in which they are not favored. Despite Tampa Bay currently having the tiebreaker over Dallas with their head-to-head victory, the Bucs are unlikely to run the table in their division as the Cowboys likely can. Tampa Bay has to face the Saints and Panthers twice each, and while they both aren’t great teams, they are capable of beating the Bucs one time apiece. The Cowboys get to play four more games against the lowly NFC East in which they very easily could go 4-0. In the end the quality, or lack thereof, in the NFC East will be the determining factor in the race for the one seed. The Cowboys finish one game better than the Buccaneers and make sure the road to the Super Bowl goes through Dallas.

Congress is getting involved in the Washington Football Team’s toxic workplace investigation – Hogs Haven
More attention to the investigation is a good thing, but this doesn’t mean anything else will happen to Dan Snyder. The NFL is an insulated entity that protects it’s interests at all costs. When the Jerry Richardson scandal hit the Carolina Panthers, he chose to sell the team before the NFL finished their investigation. Richardson chose to pull the cord before things got messier in the public, Dan Snyder doesn’t plan on selling his team(he plans on passing it to his children) and has no problem playing dirty to win. We will see if the NFL cooperates with Congress here, or if this is just another ripple in the ocean the doesn’t move Snyder’s superyacht.

If Deshaun Watson is traded, NFL will have to decide whether to put him on paid leave – PFT
If the Texans trade Watson to the Dolphins or Eagles or Panthers or whoever, and if Watson then grabs a helmet and heads to the field, the league has to decide whether to let him play. Take no action, and risk catching flak from those who say the NFL isn’t taking the sexual misconduct allegations against Watson seriously. Act, and risk inviting criticism from those who would attack a decision to ignore the presumption of innocence for someone who hasn’t even been officially accused by a prosecutor of being guilty. That’s why the league would prefer to have to make no decisions about Deshaun Watson.

The rumored Deshaun Watson trade is so mystifying – SB Nation
Nobody had “Deshaun Watson gets traded before the deadline” on their bingo card for the 2021 NFL season, but here we are. The idea of the Texans finding a trade partner for the quarterback essentially died as soon as the breadth of investigations into alleged sexual assault began. Now there are fresh, legitimate rumors Watson could be dealt as early as this week — and it’s one of the most mystifying trade scenarios in recent memory. Let’s start by saying that very little is known about the exact details of the trade at this time. It began early on Wednesday afternoon with respected Texans beat writer John McClain saying Watson could be traded to the Miami Dolphins “as early as this week,” with another beat writer, Coty M. Davis, later saying it’s believed to be a three team deal that would send Tua Tagovailoa to the Washington Football Team as well.
