6 winners and 0 losers from the Patriots’ 12th training camp practice

The New England Patriots held Tuesday’s practice in front of fans at Gillette Stadium; the team’s final showing before they take the field against an opponent for the first time on Thursday against the Washington Football Team. Their 12th practice of the summer was a lighter affair, once again focused on the operational aspects of the game, with fun for fans mixed in.

Keeping with the light affair, we’re finding the positives from today’s practice. So here are the winners of the day.

Winner: P Jake Bailey

All-Pro players do All-Pro things. That is why it should come as no surprise that Jake Bailey looked great once again on Tuesday night. His leg was as strong as ever, and his world renowned accuracy was on full display as he had two straight punts downed on the one-yard line.

The ball could be heard off of his foot from up in his press box. It could be seen sitting still at the one-yard line. That’s the recipe for success for any punter.

Winner: WR/ST Kristian Wilkerson

We go from the man punting the ball to the man that was chasing them down.

Each day it looks more and more likely that Kristian Wilkerson will find his way onto the roster, and his improved play in the kicking game is the reason why. Wilkerson was the man who downed Jake Bailey’s first punt in front of the goal line. He has also seen consistent work in other kick coverage units. Anything that he does on offense is icing on the cake at this point in camp. Look out for the second year player on Thursday.

Winner: LB Harvey Langi

Harvey Langi just seems to always be around the football. For the second straight day Langi got his hands on the ball during team drills, this time intercepting QB Brian Hoyer in a competitive 11-on-11 period.

Another player who has seen a steady rise throughout the last week, Langi will be another name to look out for on Thursday.

Winner: QB Brian Hoyer

Brian Hoyer was pretty much the only quarterback to see the field on Thursday, a day that Bill Belichick described as one to prepare for Washington.

That likely means that Hoyer will see the bulk of the action on Thursday night. His first, and perhaps only, chance to prove that he will be worth keeping around into the season. The news for Thursday is why he’s here, as none of the QB’s did much on Tuesday.

Winner: C David Andrews

Not only did David Andrews get the day off from practice on Tuesday, he and his wife Mackenzie welcomed a baby boy to the world!

A worthy excuse.

Winner: K Quinn Nordin

Capping off the list is the King of Gillette Stadium: Quinn Nordin. Another perfect day (4-for-4) improved his perfect streak to 14-for-14 inside the house that Kraft built.

Nordin made kicks from 48, 33, 43, and 46 yards, all in front of the watchful eyes of Bill Belichick. With Nick Folk sidelined for the last five practices, Nordin will likely see handle the kicking duties on Thursday. A great opportunity for the man with a big leg.
