“They’ll let anyone at these games”, including former New York Jets stars

Victorious staples of New York sports from 2009 crossed paths on Wednesday night, as the New York Yankees welcomed a pair of memorable guests to their series finale against the Baltimore Orioles.

Two of the most prominent members of the New York Jets‘ most recent glory days were on hand for the Bronx Bombers’ 2-0 victory, with Nick Mangold and Mark Sanchez securing front row seats. Their prescience was highlighted on the YES Network broadcast after Mangold originally announced their descent on Twitter.

“They’ll let anyone at these games,” Mangold, clad in a pinstriped home Yankees jersey, said as he and Sanchez, now a football analyst for Fox Sports, made their entrance.

The event was a merging of victorious metropolitan groups from 2009, which marked the Yankees’ last World Series title and one of the Jets’ most recent playoff appearances, one that ended in the AFC title game.

In perhaps a sense of ironic timing, the Yankees’ Wednesday victory was partially constructed by strong contributions from a rookie thrower, much like the Jets enjoyed aerial antics from a freshman Sanchez in their run to the conference final. JP Sears tossed five shutout innings in his first MLB start, part of a strong effort that allowed only five Baltimore hits.

Both New York runs came in the bottom of the third inning, as Miguel Andujar drove in the de facto winner on an RBI single before Gleyber Torres scored on an error. The Yankees, currently pacing the AL East with a 31-13 record, will return to action on Thursday night in St. Petersburg, FL when they battle the Tampa Bay Rays (6:40 p.m. ET, YES).
