2 former Texans playing in Super Bowl LVIII

The Houston Texans aren’t playing in Super Bowl LVIII, but that doesn’t mean they won’t have a minute presence at the big game.

Two former Texans players will suit up and could make an impact in the match: Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid and San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Chris Conley.

The Texans drafted Reid in the third round with the No. 68 pick in 2018 out of Stanford. He started 53 of the 57 games he played for Houston from 2018 to 2021. Reid tallied seven interceptions, 23 defended passes, two forced fumbles, two sacks and 315 combined tackles during his four seasons with the Texans. He signed a three-year deal with Kansas City in 2022.

Conley only spent one full season in Houston after he signed a one-year deal with the Texans in 2021. He previously spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars. Conley caught 22 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games for Houston in 2021. He re-signed in 2022 but was released after two games where he didn’t catch a pass.

Reid carved out a nice role in the Chiefs’ defense over the past two years and won a Super Bowl with Kansas City this past season. He’s started every game he’s suited up for over the past two seasons and recorded one interception, four sacks and 178 combined tackles.

Conley has played sparingly in San Francisco. He’s suited up in eight games but caught just three passes on six targets for 69 yards. Conley did, however, catch a huge third-down pass from quarterback Brock Purdy in the 49ers comeback win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC divisional round.
