The 2024 NFL draft is in the books, and the Houston Texans have improved as a roster. At least that’s how DeMeco Ryans feels with the nine newcomers set to better Houston’s odds of winning a Super Bowl come February in New Orleans.

“We like all the guys that we were able to pick,” Ryans said early Saturday evening. “We want to work with these guys. We’re fired up about it.”

Teams need young talent. The players added today become household figures of tomorrow, laying down the foundation for strong results and sustainability well past a dominant season. However, that doesn’t always help out in the immediate plans.

Having veterans set the path paves the way to conference titles. It fortifies weak points in the personnel and elevates the persona around the roster.

General manager Nick Caserio already spent over $150 million in guaranteed money, so he’s probably not in the market to fling out long-term deals. Still, the roster has several open spots on the 9-man squad entering rookie minicamp. They’ll have to be filled before the start of OTAs later next month, so perhaps a prominent name remains on the GM’s mind.

Also, beginning Monday at 3 p.m. CT, all free agent signings will no longer count against the compensatory formula, which means we could start seeing some teams making moves.

Here’s a look at some of the best available free agents Houston could target in this third wave of free agency:
