College football week 4 – Kenyon Green, OG, TAMU spotlight – Games to watch

Highlighting one of the top offensive linemen in the country

Good morning New York Giants fans!

Happy Saturday and welcome to week 4 of the 2021 college football season.

This week we will once again be spotlighting one of the top offensive linemen in the nation. Due to the horrific injury to Nick Gates, as well as Shane Lemieux’s own injury and the general sense of uncertainty surrounding the Giants’ interior offensive line, we decided it was best to focus the top offensive linemen for a while.

This week that’s Texas A&M guard turned tackle Kenyon Green.

Player spotlight – Kenyon Green, Guard, Texas A&M

Overview

Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 325 pounds, Kenyon Green is an imposing presence along the Texas A&M offensive line. Number 55 can often be seen simply stonewalling defenders — when not just moving them out of his way — whenever you turn on the Aggies’ tape. Green is a true junior who has already amassed an impressive resume, starting at right guard (true freshman), left guard (sophomore), and now at right tackle (junior), and has been one of the best linemen in the nation since his freshman season.

While the jury is still out on Green’s ability to play offensive tackle at the NFL level, his ability to play the position at the collegiate level speaks volumes about his athleticism and movement skills. While Green should be a plug-and-play guard in just about any NFL blocking scheme, teams will want to dig into his tape to see if he has upside at tackle, or even center, as a pro.

Pros

• Young, will turn 21 in March 2022
• Massive lineman who carries his weight well
• Surprisingly athletic, stays ahead of the play when pulling
• Solid anchor is pass protection
• People mover in the run game
• Able to play in man and zone concepts
• Uses good leverage and hand placement
• Good field awareness – sees and reacts to blitzes and stunts

Cons

• Can be a bit top-heavy and play over his toes
• Occasionally relies too much on his upper-body strength
• Balance is occasionally an issue
• Second-level blocks can be inaccurate

(12) Notre Dame vs. (14) Wisconsin

Fox – Noon

This should be the best games of the day, and features one matchup to which the Giants absolutely should be paying attention.

We’ve already highlighted Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton as potentially the best player in the draft, and today he’ll be going against Wisconsin’s Jake Ferguson, who could be the top tight end in the draft. Not only could the Giants use a weapon like Hamilton on defense to (finally) solve their tight end problem, but if Ferguson plays well, he could put his name in consideration if the Giants need a tight end going forward.

(7) Texas A&M vs. (16) Arkansas

CBS – 3:30pm

The other match-up we just had to highlight was the one between Texas A&M and Arkansas. Not only is this a great chance to watch our spotlight player (TAMU RT Kenyon Green) but, also Aggie’s DT DeMarvin Leal. Leal is a big, powerful player for the middle of TAMU’s defensive front who can be all but impossible to move once he puts down roots.

On the Arkansas side of the ball, the Razorbacks have one of the better offensive lines in college football. But of particular note, receiver Treylon Burks and safety Jalen Catalon could both be first round selections. Burks is a big receiver (6-foot-3, 230 pounds) who lines up all over Arkansas’ offense. Catalon is an energetic and intense safety who can defend the run, rush the passer, and defend the middle of the field.
