2021 Fantasy Outlook: RB Mike Davis

What should fantasy owners expect from Mike Davis in 2021?

As we quickly approach the start of the 2021 NFL season, we’re looking at what those who partake in fantasy football can expect from certain players on the Atlanta Falcons. We’ve already discussed wide receiver Calvin Ridley and quarterback Matt Ryan, who will both likely have solid fantasy seasons this upcoming season.

Today, we will be looking at running back Mike Davis, who is expected to lead the Falcons’ running back group in 2021. There’s a lot to be excited about when it comes to Davis, as he has the ability to impact the game both as a runner and as a receiving option. In 2020 while with the Carolina Panthers, Davis was thrust into the starting lineup due to starter Christian McCaffrey being injured for much of the season. Last season, Davis finished with the 12th most fantasy points among running backs, which is pretty solid considering he only started 12 games.

What makes Davis so appealing heading into fantasy drafts this summer is his current ADP (average draft position) being in the 75-80 range and his ability to produce in PPR-formatted leagues. Additionally, Davis is entering an offense with some top-end talent and also an offensive mind who had great success in the past running the ball. He’s not entering an offense from years past where Dirk Koetter has no real plan for gaining yards on the ground. Davis should have the carries and goal line touches to make him an under-the-radar player to crack the top-10 for fantasy running backs in 2021.

Overall, if you take Davis in your league you’re looking at a RB1 at best and a RB2 at worst. The value is great for him, and even if Cordarrelle Patterson and Qadree Ollison take some of his carries away, you’re still getting a productive fantasy player that you’re not going to have to reach for. The only factor that would play into me revisiting this outlook piece is if the Falcons add another veteran running back to the roster this summer or if UDFA Javian Hawkins (who I think could be a sleeper) makes an impact early for the Falcons.
