Making sense of the Detroit Lions cutting Mike Ford, Tyrell Crosby

Jeremy and Erik discuss two surprising moves from the Lions’ first wave of cuts.

On Monday, the Detroit Lions only made nine of the necessary 27 moves to get their roster from 80 players to 53 by Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline. Despite only making nine moves, the Lions managed to surprise a lot of people with the choices they made.

First, the Lions opted to cut veteran receiver Breshad Perriman, which wasn’t much of a surprise, but was certainly a disappointment after the Lions gambled $2 million guaranteed on the former first-round pick.

The surprises came next, when Detroit opted to cut one of their best special teamers in cornerback Mike Ford. Then, as Dan Campbell addressed the media late on Monday morning, he revealed that Tyrell Crosby—who had started 11 games for the Lion last year and was largely considered the team’s top offensive line backup—had been waived with an injury designation.
