Draft Week is Finally Here! Xavier Legette, Theo Johnson join Browns offense in this mock draft

It’s been a long process but we’re finally here and just days away from the 2024 NFL Draft and while we have to wait an extra day before the Cleveland Browns make their first selection, it’s an exciting time to be a fan of the NFL.

Going through hundreds of draft picks, watching games, analyzing athletic testing, team fits, and countless mock draft simulators has been fun and yet a grind trying to figure out who will be the best players to potentially join the Cleveland Browns and be part of their future.

I want to give a big thanks to everyone who has been reading the mock drafts from back at the beginning of the college football season until now.

With that, let’s get the final one started. I used Pro Football Network’s simulator for this edition of the mock draft and we started it with a trade down with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers going from 54 to 57 and also adding a future third-round pick.

Second Round

Pick 57 – Xavier Legette, Wide Receiver, South Carolina: Now I don’t really think that Legette falls this far in the actual draft but to get him late in the second round and even with a trade back would be a huge home run for the Cleveland Browns.

While he’s on the older side and trends would say that takes him off the board, the Browns need an explosive playmaker at the wide receiver position and Legette can be that guy. Not the smoothest route runner, he can make the contested catches downfield, can help you in the running game with his blocking, and even has shown the ability to be a returner and with his size (6’1, 221 lbs), could be a weapon with the new kickoff rules instantly.

Third Round

Pick 85 – Kiran Amegadjie, Offensive Tackle, Yale: The Browns need to come away with an offensive tackle that can potentially replace Jedrick Wills at left tackle in what is a loaded draft class at the position. Amegadjie has the potential with the size, arm length, and athleticism to be a future starter in this league but needs to work on his hand usage and footwork. It’s unclear what new offensive line coach Andy Dickerson likes in linemen but with the Browns showing a lot of interest in Amegadjie during the pre-draft process, safe to say he could be a potential Day 2 selection.

Round Five

Pick 156 – Theo Johnson, Tight End, Penn State: The tight end position behind David Njoku is a question mark with Jordan Akins entering his final season under contract and Giovanni Ricci more of an H-Back type. The Browns love athleticism and who better than the most explosive tight end of the draft class in Johnson who posted a 9.93 RAS score at the NFL Scouting Combine. On the field, he was a big target with 11 receiving touchdowns in his last two seasons but wasn’t the best blocker in the run game.

Round Six

Pick 206 – Edefuan Ulofoshio, Linebacker, Washington: At this point in the draft, you’re looking at lottery tickets or guys to come in and potentially make an impact on special teams. Ulofoshio is an older prospect having spent six seasons in college but is a great tackler and posted some strong athleticism numbers during the pre-draft process. Behind Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and Jordan Hicks, there are open spots at linebacker and at this point in the draft, it’s worth the dart throw.

Round Seven

Pick 227 – George Holani, Running Back, Boise State: Holani isn’t the most explosive running back but he’s the typical one-cut type running back who loves to go downhill. He’s also got smooth hands as a pass-catcher but there are also concerns about his durability. The Browns could go running back at some point despite the crowded room currently of D’Onta Foreman, Nyheim Hines, Jerome Ford, and Pierre Strong while Nick Chubb continues to rehab.

Pick 243 – Evan Anderson, Defensive Tackle, FAU: Anderson is a true run-stuffer at the defensive tackle position and doesn’t have the strongest pass-rush skills although 2023 was his strongest season in that department with 18 pressures. Cleveland could add some competition to the position group but Anderson could be a development prospect they try to stash away onto the practice squad for the 2024 season should they select him.
