The Houston Texans added a backup linebacker and special teams player Del’Shawn Phillips on the second day of the unofficial start of free agency.
Phillips agreed to a one-year deal worth $2.6 million, according to KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson. The contract includes $2.3 million guaranteed money, broken up by a $750,000 signing bonus and a $1.55 million base salary.
Additionally, Phillips will earn $17,647 per game in an active roster bonus, up to $300,000. He also has a $375,000 playtime incentive bonus.

This is a larger deal than the one-year, $1.1 million one he signed with the Baltimore Ravens this past season.
Phillips is more of a special teams player than backup linebacker. He played 79% for the Ravens’ special teams snaps in 2023 and tallied 24 combined tackles in 81 defensive snaps this past season.
The Texans have collected special teams contributors this offseason. Houston also signed defensive backs Lonnie Johnson and Mike Ford, who played mostly on special teams as well.
