The Houston Texans continued to add depth on special teams and along the offensive line. Houston agreed to terms with former Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle David Sharpe, according to KPRC’s Aaron Wilson.

The terms of the two-year deal were not immediately reported.

Sharpe, 28, spent the 2023 season with the Panthers. He appeared in eight games and played 21 snaps on special teams. Sharpe has bounced around the league, including two games for Houston in 2018.

He also played for the then-Oakland Raiders, the Washington Commanders and Baltimore. Sharpe played a career-high 268 offensive snaps for the Raiders in 2018.

Houston’s front office aggressively added to its special teams depth in the early parts of free agency. They signed Lonnie Johnson, Mike Ford, Del’Shawn Phillips and re-signed Eric Murray and Desmond King, who all figured to be contributors.

Houston fielded one of the best special team units in the league this past season, partially due to its willingness to find depth pieces in free agency. According to Rick Gosselin, the Texans had the best special teams group over the past two seasons.  In the 38 years Gosselin has produced the rankings, Texans special teams coordinator Ross is the seventh coach to finish atop the rankings twice.
