The Houston Texans added another depth piece to their secondary.

Houston signed former New England Patriots cornerback Myles Bryant, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan Alexander. The terms of Bryant’s deal were not immediately reported.

Bryant, 26, spent the past four years with the Patriots after going undrafted in 2020. He played mostly in a reserve role, although he started nine games in 2023 and played 851 defensive snaps — both of which were career-highs in his four-year career.

Bryant tallied one sack, 77 combined tackles and seven defended passes in 2023. He also allowed a passer rating of 102.0 when targeted, which ranked 15th among slot corners according to Pro Football Focus.

The Texans have a litany of cornerbacks on their roster, but it’s unclear who will start opposite Derek Stingley Jr. in 2023. Bryant is the fourth backup option along with Desmond King and former 2020 first-round picks Jeff Okudah and C.J. Henderson. Bryant wouldn’t necessarily be expected to start on the outside, though, as he fits primarily as slot cornerback.
