With the 25th overall pick in the 2024 Bleeding Green Nation community mock draft, Green Bay Packers GM LeFire selects …

Cooper DeJean, DB, Iowa

Current state of the Packers

Last season the Packers made it to divisional round of the playoffs, losing to the 49ers after beating the Cowboys in memorable fashion in the wild card. And there are plenty of reasons why the Packers must be feeling optimistic about their current state. Jordan Love seems to be on his way to becoming a franchise quarterback and last year draft picks turned into immediate contributors – especially the WR duo of Jayden Reed(2nd round) and Dontayvion Wicks (5th round) had significant impact. RB Aaron Jones left for Minnesota but before that Josh Jacobs was signed. It will be interesting to see what difference Jacobs will bring to the offence.

The Packers defense allowed the 10th fewest points pr game(20.6) and they have signed Xavier McKinney in free agency to take care of a huge need at safety. Jaire Alexander continues to be a superstar at the corner position and the Packers have a good amount of pass rushers.

But the team is not without holes. The Packers have needs on the offensive line, both at tackle and interior. They may have a good variety of pass rushers but not even one of them made double digits sacks last season. This could be addressed if last year’s first round pick Lukas Van Ness turns into the player the Packers hoped for – he had 4 sacks in the regular season.

Draft capital

“The Green Bay Packers are on the clock.” That sentence will be stated many times throughout this year’s draft. The Packers have 11 picks, including 5 in the first 3 rounds. That means they will have plenty of opportunities to address the teams current and future needs.

Needs: Offensive line, Linebacker, Safety, Defensive line, Corner

The 2024 draft contains a huge amount of OL talent and that has been evident throughout this mock draft. OL has been flying of the board. On the other side of the trenches the DL talent is not as significant. There is no first round talent at the inside linebacker position and properly not at the safety position either. That leaves corner as the primary pick for the Packers.

But what if you could combine the need of safety and corner with maybe a tiny little bit of linebacker? Say no more.

With the 25th overall pick the Green Bay Packers select Cooper DeJean, DB, Iowa.

Malcolm Jenkins 2.0

That is what the Packers hope to turn Cooper DeJean into. Malcolm was not a safety, corner or nickel – he was all of it. Like Malcolm, Cooper DeJean plays multiple positions and excels at all of them. Personally, I would put Cooper at the modern hybrid position between safety and nickel. This would also address multiple positional needs for the Packers. They can always fill other holes later the draft, remember they have 11 picks.

Malcolm never left the field on defense – Cooper has that same talent.
