3 Chiefs continue to be absent from mandatory minicamp

For the second consecutive day, three players were not in attendance.
Wednesday marked the second day of the Kansas City Chiefs’ mandatory minicamp, which will run through Thursday. Even though these practices are mandatory, there are three players that have not shown up to either day, per The Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell (here is Wednesday’s roundup).
Chiefs just wrapped up second day of mandatory minicamp. Didn’t see Martinas Rankin, Kyle Long (knee) or Armani Watts. Deandre Baker and Malik Herring without a helmet. Austin Blythe didn’t participate in team drills.

Long has a good excuse: the knee injury he suffered last week will keep him off the practice field until training camp at the earliest. The other two — offensive lineman Martinas Rankin and safety Armani Watts — don’t have an official excuse, but they could be injured. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is scheduled to speak with the media on Thursday — when we may get some greater clarity. Cornerback Deandre Baker and defensive lineman Malik Herring were once again present but without a helmet.
Besides those five, McDowell noted that interior offensive lineman Austin Blythe did not participate in team drills.
The third and final day of this mandatory minicamp will be held on Thursday at the Chiefs’ practice facility. The team won’t officially meet again until training camp commences in late July.
