49ers agree to terms with former Panthers DB Myles Hartsfield

As first reported by NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the versatile defensive back has agreed to terms with the San Francisco 49ers. He will, of course, be rejoining former interim head coach and new defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

The Panthers signed the Ole Miss product as an undrafted free agent back in 2020. Hartsfield didn’t have a primary position coming into Carolina—at least initially—practicing as both a safety and a running back during the summer.

Since making the 53-man roster that year, he’s gone on to play in 41 games—with 19 starts—over the past three seasons. Hartsfield, who served as the team’s primary nickel defender, recorded 118 combined tackles (five for a loss), one sack, one forced fumble and seven passes defensed between 2020 and 2022.
