Minicamp was scheduled to take place June 15-17

When the 49ers canceled their OTA practice Monday, it felt as if Thursday’s practice wouldn’t happen, either. But then, a few teams around the NFL decided not to hold mandatory minicamp that’s scheduled for next week.

New Texans’ head coach David Culley said, “our attendance at OTAs has been great for us here. We’ve accomplished what we wanted to accomplish.” When I saw that, instantly, “oh, the 49ers are probably doing the same.”

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media Wednesday afternoon and canceled mandatory minicamp after losing three players for all or half of the 2021 season. Shanahan cited how injuries played a factor but also said the team got in some good work in the seven practices:

We had such a big turnout. We had 89 guys show up to OTAs. The one guy who didn’t show up was Dee (Ford) and he’s been here rehabbing since February.

Nick Bosa has been in Santa Clara rehabbing. Shanahan also mentioned that some rookies would stick around.

Shanahan explained that Jeff Wilson Jr. was hurt after getting out of a chair awkwardly. He said Tarvarius Moore was doing a drill on air with nobody around him and his Achilles went out. Justin Skule was the lone injury that involved contact. Skule was hurt during a pass set.

Shanahan said that Moore and Skule were each hurt within three plays.

Rob Lowder and I spoke about the injuries below:
