Juszczyk on Lance: His natural ability definitely jumps out at you

If a 49ers player makes the media rounds, he’ll inevitably get asked about the team’s quarterback competition. That was the case with fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who recently spoke with Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun.

Juice had glowing praise for rookie quarterback Trey Lance:

“His natural ability definitely jumps out at you, and his size as well. He’s a big, strong athlete. You can see the natural ability and the arm strength. What really stood out to me is his willingness to learn.

The few times I got to pick his brain, you can tell that he wanted to soak up anything a veteran could tell him. He’s so excited to have this opportunity, and he’s taking full advantage of it. I’m really excited to see what he can do.”

We are all excited to see what Lance can do and how this season and beyond plays out.

Mike McDaniel praised Lance for being coachable. That’s a good sign for a young player, as some high draft picks come into the building with a sense of entitlement. However, that doesn’t seem to be an issue with Lance based on everything the coaches and players are saying.

Juszczyk made it clear that the Niners are still in Jimmy Garoppolo’s character:

“The team loves Jimmy and knows what type of winner he is. We’ve done it, and we’ve been a quarter away from winning a Super Bowl with him. So we have a ton of respect for Jimmy and the way he’s handled this situation. It’s not easy when an organization gives up the draft capital that they did to go up and get a quarterback – we all know what’s going on there. But Jimmy has been a total professional, and you can see how much work he’s put in during the offseason.”

The clock is ticking for Jimmy, but it’s nice to know that he hasn’t wavered. Will that be the case if things don’t go his way during the season? Time will tell, but we haven’t heard any coach or teammate of Garoppolo’s whisper anything negative yet.

Juszczyk believes this will be a great situation for both quarterbacks, as they’ll push and motivate each other. The best-case scenario for San Francisco would be each quarterback plays well, and the Niners get a solid return next offseason for Jimmy G.
