He added that the team isn’t going to pressure those players to get vaccinated

Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media after Friday’s practice and said five players on the 49ers roster are not vaccinated.

On Thursday, Nick Bosa and Jason Verrett showed up at the podium wearing masks, citing separate reasons for being unvaccinated. On Friday, wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Mohamed Sanu were wearing masks as well.

Aiyuk said he’s “still working through the vaccine situation.” Shanahan said the team is not going to pressure those five players who are unvaccinated.

It’s easy to get outraged now, and I’m a victim of that as well. But, in my head, I’m thinking, “just get the shot, man.” Sanu told reporters that he’s received his first shot and gets his second shot next week.

Perhaps that’s what Aiyuk meant, but he didn’t disclose whether or not he’s received a shot yet. Bosa and Verrett’s answers were different, though. Bosa said he’s still “evaluating” whether to get the COVID-19 vaccine, while Verrett said he’s “working through” his decision.

Injury updates

Tight end MyCole Pruitt is out with a calf injury and will miss a bit of time. Defensive tackle Maurice Hurst Jr. has a “slight ankle” injury and will miss time as well.

Nick Bosa and Jalen Hurd didn’t practice today as they were scheduled rest days. Neither player suffered an injury. This is a part of their recovery plan that includes a maintenance day. Shanahan said that Bosa would get every third day off from practice.

There is still no set time frame for Bosa returning to team drills, but he expects to be ready to roll for Week 1, barring any setbacks.

“I just like that he keeps firing it”

Jordan Elliot will have some notes from Day 3 of practice, so I won’t spoil too much. Richie James had a couple of big drops from the sounds of it, and Mohamed Sanu had another solid outing. Sanu seems like he’s the early leader in the clubhouse for the WR3 position after a few practices.

Lance supposedly had a few throws that he’d want to have back, but Shanahan appreciates Lance’s aggressiveness: “You don’t have to get on him too much. When he doesn’t have a good throw, he knows it. I just like that he keeps firing it.”

The 49ers practice again on Saturday, have Sunday off and put the pads on for Monday’s practice.
