The 49ers got through their first four practices of training camp without any major developments. A relatively uneventful few days is the type of camp the club needs to have the whole preseason.

There’ll be stories that come out about position battles and roster bubble movement and the like, but this is a team with Super Bowl aspirations already. Their main goal is to get through camp healthy and with a full slate of available starters going into Week 1.

That’s all that matters for the 49ers in camp this year after a 2020 season that was derailed early and often by availability problems. A nice, easy camp with typical ebbs and flows has to be the goal, and they’ve accomplished it so far.

It hasn’t been exactly perfect. Javon Kinlaw is working back from a knee issue that cropped up while he was traveling. He’s still not doing team drills. Emmanuel Moseley and Jaquiski Tartt are both on the COVID-19 list, and tight end MyCole Pruitt is dealing with a calf issue. Outside of that the missed time has either been brief – defensive lineman Maurice Hurst missed one practice with an ankle injury – or part of scheduled rest.

The 49ers need desperately to stay healthy, and setting tone by keeping players fresh throughout camp is a good start toward accomplishing that goal.
