The Jacksonville Jaguars are required to keep their salary spending under $255.4 million for the 2024 NFL season, but a chunk of the team’s money is due to count toward contracts that are no longer active.

“Dead money” is a charge against a team’s salary cap for a player whose contract is no longer active. For example, if a player signs a three-year contract, but is released after two seasons, any remaining guarantees on the deal will still count against the team.

The Jaguars are due to incur just over $17.9 million in dead money charges for the 2024 season. That ranks 19th in the NFL and not even close to the $53 million dead money cap hit the Denver Broncos are set to take on for Russell Wilson, alone.
