For the second time in under two months, the Chicago Bears miraculously snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at the very last minute. Earlier in the season, it was against the Denver Broncos. This time, it’s against the division-rival Detroit Lions. The Bears fell to the Lions 31-26, despite leading 26-14 with just four minutes to go in the game. For three and a half quarters, Chicago dominated Detroit on all fronts and looked poised to get their first big win under Matt Eberflus. Instead, the Bears turtled and allowed the Lions to gash them when it mattered most to fall to 3-8 on the season.

The loss wasted a solid outing from quarterback Justin Fields, who made his return after missing four games. Fields was in control for 99% of the game until he faltered on the final offensive snap while trying to lead a comeback. The defense and special teams, meanwhile, generated four takeaways that kept the Lions offense off the field. But it still wasn’t enough, as the Bears dropped what could be their most heartbreaking loss yet of the Eberflus era.

A lot went wrong in this one and has Bears fans wondering when changes are going to be made. Here are our takeaways from the loss:
