Report: Aaron Rodgers turned down a 2-year extension with the Packers

We’re a week away from seeing if Rodgers reports to camp. In the meantime, things don’t look good for the Packers.

The Aaron Rodgers saga is Green Bay is about to hit a fever pitch. With veteran Packers players scheduled to report to training camp next Tuesday, all eyes will be on whether the 2020 MVP will attend practices or stick to his guns and demand a trade away from Green Bay.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Rodgers turned down a two-year extension from the team that would have had him signed for the next five years—and made him the highest-paid player in football. Remember, Patrick Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450 million contract with the Chiefs last year, so we’re talking serious money here.

It’s unclear when exactly this offseason Rodgers was offered the deal, but there have been no signs of the veteran quarterback budging from his stance of wanting out of Green Bay. On the other side, the Packers have been just as adamant that they have no plans of moving Rodgers.

“We remain committed to resolving things with Aaron and want him to be our quarterback in 2021 and beyond,” team president Mark Murphy said back in June.

A couple weeks ago during “The Match,” a televised golfing even with Rodgers facing off against Tom Brady, the Packers quarterback gave no indication of whether he planned on playing for the Packers this year or not.

“Yeah, I don’t know, (Brian Anderson),” Rodgers said. “We’ll see. We’ll see, won’t we?”
