The Pittsburgh Steelers make their first injury related roster move of training camp by bringing in a new tight end to fill out the depth chart.

It is often said how the NFL offseason roster is fluid. This is certainly the case for all 32 NFL teams, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are no exception. Throughout training camp, injuries will require several names on that 90-man offseason roster to change, and the Steelers saw their first injury related roster move Friday.

After Dax Raymond left Thursday’s practice with a leg injury, the team has waived Raymond injured, and signed Marcus Baugh.

Marcus Baugh was an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State in 2018 when he signed with the Oakland Raiders. Failing to make the team, Baugh spent the spring of 2019 with the San Diego Fleet of the AAF where he had 286 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 13 receptions. Baugh signed with the Carolina Panthers for the 2019 season, but spent the year on injured reserve. Landing with the Washington Football Team in 2020, Baugh went back-and-forth from the active roster to the practice squad and appeared in eight games with one reception for 2 yards on 79 offensive snaps.

Baugh now finds himself on a depth chart with players like Eric Ebron, Pat Freiermuth, Zach Gentry and Kevin Rader. It will be difficult for Baugh to find a spot on the team’s regular season roster, barring injury, but he at least has a chance.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will likely have more roster moves before training camp, and the preseason, conclude, so be sure to stay tuned to BTSC for the latest news and notes surrounding the team as they prepare for the 2021 regular season.
