This silly team is pacing the league in interview requests

The 2-15 Carolina Panthers may have been the worst team in the NFL last season by several miles, but they have the most sought after coordinators of any team in the league. That is, the have the most coordinators who have been sought after. Presumably somebody like the Detroit Lion’s Ben Johnson or the San Francisco 49ers ever-popular Raheem Morris have received the most interview requests.

The Tennessee Titans submitted an interview request yesterday for Thomas Brown. They would like the Panthers (most likely) former offensive coordinator to interview for their vacant head coaching position. That makes this the third year in a row in which Brown will have interviewed for a head coach opening.

Defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero has received a handful of requests. Some requests, like the Jaguars’ request to interview him for their defensive coordinator position, have been denied. The Atlanta Falcons and the Seattle Seahawks have both requested to interview him for the head coach openings. More requests for Evero are expected.

Chris Tabor is the only special teams coordinator in the league to interview for a head coach vacancy. He recently completed a virtual interview with the Panthers, for whom he finished the season as their interim head coach.

While Tabor’s interview may have been little more than a formality, it does count. It also marks the Panthers as the only team to have all three coordinators interview/be requested for an interview for a head coach position. Talk about an All-Star staff.
