Like all players in the NFL, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ roster is huge on helping the community and two of their leaders were recognized for their efforts off the field Friday. Those players were guard Andrew Norwell and defensive lineman Dawuane Smoot, both of whom received the Jags Foundation Community Leader Awards.

Smoot, who is currently in his fifth year with the team, has been active with the Feeding Northeast Florida Organization, Jacksonville Police Athletic League, and local STEM education. Smoot and his wife, Aumari, also made a big contribution to the Jacksonville Arts and Music School.

Norwell, who is in his eighth year in the NFL, has a foundation named after him that has taken on a mission to address hunger and aid children with receiving healthy meals throughout the states of Ohio, Florida, and North Carolina. The veteran also hosts Turkey Time with his fellow offensive linemen, which distributes hundreds of meals for children and families in the city of Jacksonville and has contributed his time and effort to USO Jacksonville.

Both Smoot and Norwell have been two of the Jags’ best players this season, but it appears both wanted those efforts to translate off the field, too. With the holidays coming up, the team as a whole will continue to be active in the Jacksonville community as it has stood by the organization through the highs and the lows.
