Anthony Hitchens returns to full work in practice; Charvarius Ward absent

All the injury news from Tuesday’s Chiefs practice.

The Kansas City Chiefs had their sixth full practice of training camp on Monday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. It was the first padded practice of camp.

The day’s biggest injury news came when wide receiver Tyreek Hill left practice after spending time in the medical tent. Following practice, head coach Andy Reid said that Hill was suffering from tendonitis in his knee, so he was held out.

As the session began, the Kansas City Star’s Herbie Teope reported that offensive lineman Mike Remmers (back spasms), running back Darwin Thompson (COVID protocol), safety Juan Thornhill (groin strain) and wide receiver Chad Williams (groin strain) were all missing another day of practice — but cornerback Charvarius Ward was also not in evidence on the practice field.

Following practice, Reid said that Ward had eye surgery performed during the offseason — and that it had “flared up” after it was poked.

Offensive lineman Kyle Long, tight end Nick Keizer and linebacker Malik Herring were all present — but remained on the sidelines. All three are on the team’s injured lists.

There was good news, though. Friend-of-the-site Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest noted that linebackers Anthony Hitchens and Ben Niemann — both of whom did not participate in Monday’s team work — arrived ready to get some work in.

Hitchens participated in team drills, but Niemann did not.

Late in practice, the Star’s Sam McDowell reported that defensive back Rodney Clemons also had to report to the medical tent.

Reid did not offer any information about what happened to Clemons.
