Melvin Ingram III already visited the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason and left without a deal, as the Kansas City Star’s Herbie Teope reported.

A visit indicates interest by both parties. A visit that doesn’t end in a deal, particularly later in the free-agency process, usually indicates the two sides are far apart on financials. As training camp nears and even begins, the free agent will be more motivated to sign.

The Chiefs aren’t up against the salary cap. They don’t have the room to overpay, either. Still, Ingram’s potential addition could have a drastic effect with 43 sacks in the previous five campaigns before last season’s knee injury.

Aside from Frank Clark, who faces a felony charge for illegal possession of a firearm, no other Chiefs edge-defender managed more than three sacks last season.

2. Reid vs. John Harbaugh (Week 2: Chiefs at Ravens)

You could make the argument that this matchup should be at the top of the list, but we’re not going to put it there until John Harbaugh can figure out how to beat Andy Reid. The Ravens and Chiefs have met a total of four times since Reid was hired by the Chiefs in 2013 and Harbaugh has come out on the losing end in each of those games. Having Lamar Jackson as his quarterback hasn’t even helped Harbaugh, who’s 0-3 against the Chiefs WITH Jackson. Harbaugh is absolutely one of the best coaches in the league, but Baltimore is going to have a tough time getting back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2012 if Harbaugh can’t figure out a way to beat the Chiefs. This matchup is especially juicy because Harbaugh actually coached for nine years under Reid. During Reid’s time in Philadelphia, Harbaugh served as the special teams coordinator from 1999 until 2007. Harbaugh finally left in 2008 when he was hired to become coach of the Ravens.

Finding Travis Kelce’s long-term replacement could be on the agenda at some point for the Chiefs, and the team has already talked about using two tight ends more often after drafting Noah Gray this year. Wydermyer has been highly productive as a receiver in two seasons for the Aggies, totals 78 catches for 953 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The torn ACL in Week 2 last season caused Bosa’s inevitable drop from No. 3 last year, but voters are still high on his elite ability in the long term.

Bosa won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 with nine sacks, 25 quarterback hits and 16 tackles for loss. He didn’t have enough time to put up numbers but still posted an impressive 84.9 Pro Football Focus rating in limited 2020 action.

“Instincts and technique — excellent with his hands and counters and plays with power,” an NFC scout said. “Really no ‘wow’ physical trait but knows how to play the game. Can play the run and pass with no real weakness there.”

Is there a more simultaneously overrated and underrated wideout in the NFL? His critics say the Giants were right to deal him, that Baker Mayfield plays better without him, that he’s never fully invested, that he’s nowhere near as scary as his talent and early career suggests. What they miss is the fact he’s topped 1,000 yards every time he’s played at least 12 games (five times!), the fact he’s eclipsed 13.5 yards per catch in all but one season, and the possibility that he’ll go off in what could be his first full season under the Kevin Stefanski regime. Jarvis Landry may be Mayfield’s favorite, and the Browns’ offense starts on the ground, but if he can stay on the field, there’s no reason to think yet another 1,000-yard campaign won’t happen as Cleveland solidifies itself as a contender.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 overall pick, signed his rookie deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Monday morning. It’s a four-year, $36.8 million deal with a $24.1 million signing bonus, Pelissero reported.

The deal, like all first-round rookie contracts, includes a fifth-year option and, per Pelissero, unprecedented language and payment structure.

The Chiefs have declared independence from subpar offensive line play.
