The Atlanta Falcons only have two preseason games left ahead of the NFL’s first-ever 17-game schedule in 2021, but the team is getting some extra work in this week against the Miami Dolphins — this weekend’s preseason opponent.

Head coach Arthur Smith believes the Falcons’ two joint practices down in Miami will benefit both teams.

“I thought it went well — it was really good work on both sides,” stated Smith following Wednesday’s practice. “I thought it was a very productive day on all three phases.

Coming down here was very productive. Different scheme, different players, in a great environment… You like to get the work in with programs with respect.”

Among the scenarios worked on, Smith was pleased with the results of Atlanta’s offense and defense in the two-minute drill, but also acknowledged that there was no tackling.

“I thought it was a real good operation really all around. That second group of defense, it was a good grind-it-out drive. You can’t get enough of that work.”

The offense scored on both possessions, first on a field goal from Younghoe Koo and then on touchdown pass from AJ McCarron to Juwan Green. The Falcons’ defense also stood tall as they forced a stop during the Dolphins’ first drive. However, Miami’s second offensive possession resulted in a touchdown.

Check back for updates from Thursday’s practice.
